About Us

Alpha in New Jersey

In 1926, New Jersey brothers organized to establish a local chapter focused on leadership, scholarship, and service while confronting the social barriers of the era. The chapter was formed in Newark through the efforts of Bro. Peyton Anderson, Bro. James Fladger, Bro. Leslie Thompson, and local charter members of what became Alpha Alpha Lambda Chapter.

Growth continued with Alpha Theta Lambda in Atlantic City and additional alumni and college chapters across the state. By spring 1974, New Jersey included nine alumni chapters and three college chapters, building the foundation for statewide collaboration.

Our District

In 1976, chapter officers and brothers from across the state met with State President Bro. Elbert C. Wisner to organize the State Convention of New Jersey Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The organization later became the New Jersey Association of Alpha Phi Alpha Chapters (NJAAPAC).

Today, NJAAPAC represents 21 chapters in New Jersey, including 12 alumni chapters and 9 college chapters.
